Panopto

Why Use Panopto?

Panopto allows instructors to create videos, upload zoom recordings, and create content that can easily be inserted in Canvas courses. These videos can be excellent for online and hybrid courses. They can also be additional resources for students in face-to-face courses.

Panopto has a mobile app, so students can watch (or create) recordings on tablets and phones.

Basic Panopto Lecture Capture

Zoom - Panopto - Canvas Integration

This is the recommended way to record zoom meetings to share in your course.

Hiding Panopto Videos Until You Approve

Normally, Panopto will make videos available to students as soon as it's done processing them. This includes anything you upload, lecture recordings, and recordings from the Zoom integration. It is best practice to set the folders to "never" and then share each video, to ensure that nothing is accidentally shared.

Change the default setting for the class (folder).

Publishing a video

When you're ready to publish a video, go to the Panopto folder. Find the video to publish.

Student Access to Panopto

Students can view the videos you share with the course folder.

You can embed the Panopto videos into your course modules, so students can see it directly in the related course content.

Making an Assignment Folder

Students can also MAKE Panopto videos and share them. To access this option, you will want to create an assignment folder. This ensures that students can share their videos with you, but other students will not immediately see them. This also allows students to create material in the folder without needing editing access to the larger course folder.
